York Modelmaking was established in 1969, manufacturing architectural and museum models. The purchase of our first laser cutter in 2007 revolutionised our building techniques, allowing us to create previously unattainable levels of intricate detail. The laser-cutting process also speeded up the making of the building components, making these quality items affordable for hobby modellers. We launched our unique range of laser-cut architectural components for railway modellers in 2008.

I joined the company in 1985 as an architectural model-maker, quickly becoming the Company Manager and went on to create the model railway online shop in 2012. On the retirement of the family directors I took over the company in 2017.

I enjoy seeing the creativity of our worldwide customers and responding to the challenges they set us, taking pride in what we’ve helped them to achieve. In addition to our standard range of building components, kits and tools (over a thousand products now) we continue to offer our bespoke laser-cutting services. So whether you simply need the dimensions of one of our standard items altering to suit your needs or would like parts for a complete set of buildings to be made from your drawings we can help.

I hope our website inspires you to create model layouts you can enjoy and be proud of.
