We were approached by Giles Baxter back in 2020 to laser-cut plywood roof beams and end screens with intricate tracery for a 00 scale model of York Station. He decided to replicate the Victorian engineering of the roof; no mean feat as anyone who has seen Yorks curving roof will appreciate. William Guild, a recently qualified architect and a whizz with CAD, came on board; working from drawings and photographs he produced files for us to produce a kit of many parts. With the aid of setting out curves Peter Smith, of Kirtley Models, constructed the roof to perfectly align round the curve, before he cladd it with aluminium sheet and painted the finished model.
